Western Cape

Hi, Western Cape residents!

Here are some of the parrots in our system that are currently in foster care and seeking their new forever families.

You can start by completing an adoption application (see buttons below). We try to avoid inter-provincial travel unless we really struggle to find a home in the original region, so this page is dedicated to applicants in the Western Cape only.

Please kindly note that we are a volunteer-run organisation so it might take some time for us to get to your application, especially because we are currently trying to work through a backlog that has occurred as well.

Want to know more about the permit requirements for Indian Ringneck Parakeets? Read our Blog post on the subject.

Getting Involved

Save a Parrot

Spotlight on: Sparky

Sparky, a Congo African Grey
📍Brackenfell, Western Cape

Background info: Sparky came into our care with a help of a private rescuer in the Cape Town area. Sparky was originally surrendered to his pet store and lived there briefly before being signed over to Cheeky Beaks Rescue and moving to his foster home.

How old am I? 4 years old

My noise level?
I am vocal, love to talk. But I do not scream

My most annoying vocalisation?
None

My cutest vocalisation?
Sparkles, and when you go out the door he say “bye!”

My flight ability?
None at this point

Can I step up?
I dont like to be touched. I love to be spoken to and be part of the conversation.

Do I bite?
I do get moods!

Am I social?
Vocally; I love to be part of the conversation.

What type of family do I want?
I want a family who can love and give affection without wanting to touch and pick me up. I don’t know “love” and “attention”, but with patience and time I know you will grow to love me as I am. Maybe with time I may surprise you…

What kind of cage do I need?
I do not get out of my cage much, I will need enough space to swing like a monkey and climb. I like toys, so would appreciate a big cage with enough stimulation.

What do I like to eat?
I learned to eat Nature’s Nest pellets. I also love cooking mix and sprouts with veggies and fruit. I also like my “pappies” (handrearing formula) for breakfast in the morning.

Do I pluck?
Yes. But I have been a good boy lately, and new feathers are growing back.
